Disabled People in Fiction

It’s Disability Pride Month, so I thought I would take a look at books written by and for disabled people.

There are many books in the science fiction and fantasy genres, but often these have tired tropes like disabled people being “cured” by advanced science or magic, which can be offensive and/or triggering. So if you are planning to read around this topic, check out the reviews of the book and choose books written by disabled authors.

If you’re thinking of writing a disabled character and are not disabled yourself, read widely and deeply about the disability you’re writing about before you start.
